The Tahitian cultured pearl is the second direct resource of French Polynesia after tourism and in front of fishery products, vanilla and monoi. In 2018 the sector represents more than half of exports with 7,6 Billions Fxpf (64Million euro).

The pearl industry
The Polynesian pearl industry is a group of actors and activities which for more than half a century have worked together in order to produce the most beautiful pearls in the world. If we think first of pearl producers or jewelers, this activity represent a complex sector that involves multiple intermediate professions bringing know-how and added value: scientists, nucleus traders, producer of pearl products, traders, jewelers, craftsmen, technical and administrative services which make the Tahitian cultured pearl an integrated but complex sector.
