Nucleus trader

A nucleus trader is any person who manufactures, buys, recycles, or imports nuclei for sale solely to a pearl producer or other local nucleus trader.

The nucleus is a nacre ball made from a mussel shell imported from different countries. This nucleus is then inserted into the oyster’s reproductive organ, is gradually covered with mother-of-pearl and will constitute the nucleus of the future Tahitian cultured pearl.

The nucleus trader must have an import license, keep a record of purchases and sales of cores and provide the authorities with the data necessary to control production quotas for pearl products.

Producer of pearl oyster: lagoon or hatchery

A pearl oyster producer is any person whose activity consists in artificial fertilization, larval rearing, fixation of pearl oyster larvae in a controlled environment, collection of pearl oyster larvae in a natural environment or in a hatchery , breeding, transfer and sale of pearl oysters from its production and the sale and export of mother-of-pearl shells

The pearl oyster producer must declare his initial stock of pearl oysters, respect the allocated areas, keep a record of his activities and clear out his collecting stations.

Producer of pearl products

A producer of pearl products is any person whose business consists in the transfer, breeding, transplantation of pearl oysters, the cultivation of grafted pearl oysters, the harvesting of pearl products pearl oysters and the sale and export of mother-of-pearl shells and pearl products.

The producer of pearl products must declare his initial stock of pearls and nuclei, keep a record of his activities and declare the quantities of pearls sold.

A pearl trader in pearls and pearl products worked only with pearl producers and traders for resale to customers.

The pearl trader has reporting obligations and must keep a record of purchases and sales.

Free export company

Anyone devoting his main activity to the export of fine pearls or culture and processing, including pearl products from breeding and grafting in French Polynesia.

This person must keep a record of his buying and selling activities.

Jewel retailer of pearl products

A jewel retailer of pearl products buys or participates in purchases of rough or semi-wholesale or retail pearl products only from pearl producers or traders, for resale in rough or reworked, mounted in articles or jewel articles with precious metals to customers.

He must declare his initial stock of pearl products, keep a record of his purchases and sales activities and declare them.

Artisan retailer of pearl products

An artisan retailer of pearl products is a traditional craftsman buying from pearl producers and traders to put them into crafts for sale to individuals.

Only traditional craftsmen can apply for authorization to carry on the activity of artisan craftsman of pearl products with the service in charge of pearl farming.

The artisan pearl retailer must declare his initial stock of pearl products and keep a record of purchase and sale.
